The IJG Business Climate Monitor (BCM) climbed a bit higher in June 2020 – to 54.3 up from 54.2 in May. The BCM is calculated on a 12-month average. The monthly value, in contrast, decreased to 51.6 compared to 61.3 in March and 54.8 in April and May. A recovering agricultural sector, improved mining output, as well as higher figures for vehicles sold and businesses registered all helped to shore up the BCM. However, the figures for foreign visitor arrivals were a reminder of the more damaging impacts of COVID-19 – only 202 people arrived at Hosea Kutako International Airport, a fraction of the number of arrivals in a normal year.
