The ACTION coalition, a grouping of CSOs working for more access to information in Namibia, just signed a memorandum of understanding to formalize our work. We at IPPR believe that access to information will be a key governance issue in Namibia in the coming years. Being able to access information matters for us as researchers, for obvious reasons, but first and foremost we believe that all citizens will benefit from more transparency. In fact, the government seems to agree: President Geingob started off his term with an asset declaration, and government has committed itself to passing an law that gives citizens the right to access to information.
ACTION got to give input on the drafting on that bill, and we will stay involved as the process continues and beyond, advocating for greater government openness and transparency.
